A small eight-year-old boy shot and killed his elderly caregiver in the head on Thursday evening in Slaughter, Louisiana after playing a violent video game. The victim was eighty-seven year old Marie Smothers. She turned out to be the boy’s grandmother. The gun belonged to Smothers and the boy’s father also stated that the gun belonged to Smothers. No news has been released to where the gun was placed or if it was near the boy. The boy told investigators that he accidently shot her in the head while playing with it but authorities believe it was intentional. Neighbors state that the neighborhood is a safe quiet place and are curious as to why precautions have not taken place. Since the boy is only eight-years-old he will not face any charges. Under Louisiana law, a child under ten is free from criminal responsibility. The press thinks that the violent virtual world in the child’s game may have triggered him to shoot his grandmother.
It is said that the boy was playing “Grand Theft Auto IV' on his PlayStation III. This game is rated M for mature audience only. It is intended for seventeen-years-old and up and an eight-year-old was playing it. This game involves a bunch of shooting, killing, and stabbing. The players receive points for killing which encourages them to kill more people. He was playing this game right before the murder happened. Adam Lanza, the shooter of the killing at Sandy Hook Elementary, was obsessed with violent video games. Violent video games have been and still are a huge problem and are controversial. People have been and still are killing people. The number of people dying because of being killed in the USA is high and at stake. Are violent video games the cause of all the killings happening throughout the world?

A Night in Casablanca

In A Night in Casablanca, Groucho uses many aspects of SOAPST. Groucho is annoyed with the Warner Brothers because they denied him of naming his movie A Night in Casablanca because there is already a movie named Casablanca. Groucho wrote this letter in 1947 to the Warner Brothers. The intended audience would the Warner Brothers of course but the people of the world have obviously seen this speech. Groucho was simply informing the Warner Brothers about his feelings about their decision towards his movie title. He feels that the Warner Brothers cannot take possession over that name. Also like the name “brothers”. He is obviously angry about it. Groucho has a very sarcastic tone during this speech. He talks about other brothers and how the Warner Brothers are not the only brothers in the world. He also gets personal and aggressive when he says their names, Jack and Harry. He also includes humor aspects in it as well. He was aggressive in the beginning of the speech but then gets a little friendly afterwards. It has been said that Groucho wrote this speech as a publicity stunt to attract people. It also said that there is no actual proof whether or not the Warner Brothers actually did object the Marx Brothers from the title of the movie.

Advertisment

In this advertisement, five Nike shoes are displayed in different various colors. They each have a caption of the name of the shoe under them. There is a description and a huge text. It looks like an old time advertisement. The shoes are made to look worn out and old by having them look like shoes from the 1970’s. The advertisement was made in 2007 referring to the thirty years after 1977. This advertisement wants to let the viewer’s know that these shoes are not made to look like brand new hot shoes. The ethos here is the Nike symbol. It shows us that Nike made this and is credible and trustworthy to talk about shoes because they are known for their shoes or better yet, sports equipment. More people will buy Nike rather than an unknown random shoe brand. The logos is how they mention that these shoes are made to look like shoes from 1977 or thirty years ago. One can research or actually ask a person who lived and ran in the 1970’s if they or other people who ran during that time wore Nike brand shoes. One can also research about Nike’s history and old sports equipment and what they looked like. The pathos is the large text that says “EAT OUR DUST.” It is intimidating and motivating. The smaller text that describes how they made the shoe look old and “fresh out of the box” from thirty years and calling it “vintage” is also pathos. They are making it sound epic and that persuades people viewing the advertisement want to buy it so they can have this shoe. People who run and work out or play sports would want to know about this and would affect them to try this shoe out and buy them.

My Favorite Book

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas is my favorite book. It is one of the best fictions there is. It is an amazing book because it is written terrifically and it is down to last detail. It is breath taking. The way Edmond Dantes (main character) portrays a whole new character after he gets out of jail for a crime he did not commit and seeks revenge on those who put his innocent self in jail is exhilarating. He does not wish to kill them but, make them suffer. His schemes are so clever and admirable. He made sure who ever made him suffer for a handful of years got the same damage done back to them. It feels like one is taking an adventure while reading the book and you want to continue and continue and never stop. It includes high adventure and drama, revenge and love. All the characters are memorable and the language is pure genius. I was left satisfied and jaw-dropped when I flipped the last page of the book. I would recommend this novel to whoever is in need of a fantastic read. Many people need to read The Count of Monte Cristo if they have not. Anyone would enjoy this novel. One cannot dodge a piece like this.
